Fantastic and affordable fruit trees from Transition Glastonbury

Transition Glastonbury in conjunction with Transition Wells and Wedmore Green Group has started a "Fruit Trees for All" Scheme which will allow people to grow trees in their own back garden.

The aim of the project is to make it affordable and easy for people in our area to buy high quality apple, pear and plum trees which they can then plant in their garden.

Orders can be made up until 31st October, and trees will be delivered and available for collection in Glastonbury, Wells and Wedmore in January.  Purchasers will also be able to watch a tree planting and tree care demonstration.

Varieties available are:

Scrumptious Apple: a sweet crisp mid-season dessert apple to eat from October to December

Red Falstaff Apple: equally delicious, very juicy and when kept in a cool dry place will last from December to March

Concorde Pear: fairly new to the UK it is juicy and flavoursome and recommended for organic growing

Victoria Plum: very popular with its yellow flesh and red or mottled skin and delicious raw or cooked

The apple trees are priced at £8.50 each; pear £9.50 each and plums £10.00 each

The project means that you can enjoy seeing your own tree grow and have your own fruit year after year, as well as helping to reduce food miles.
