Worthy causes in Glastonbury and Street could receive a gift of between 50 and 100 young trees from a local garden centre.
Andrew Pitman, Manager of Monkton Elm Garden and Pet Centre is giving away 2,013 saplings to celebrate 2013
Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre near Taunton is looking for local people to nominate schools, charities, local organisations and community groups to receive these saplings as a contribution to projects they are running in 2013.
Andrew Pitman, Plant Manager at the garden centre, explained: "To celebrate the start of the New Year, we've got 2,013 small sapling trees to give to any worthy causes that would like them for projects they are running in 2013.
"We are inviting anyone who feels that their school, charity or group is deserving of the saplings to get in touch.
Mr Pitman added: "We do have a limited number of saplings and are allocating them on a first come, first served basis so we urge people to submit their requests as soon as possible."
The 2,013 trees are indigenous British varieties known as whips and worthy community groups will receive between 50 and 100 of these young trees.
Mr Pitman continued: "As the saplings are fairly small they are ideal for areas and projects where they can be planted together in groups of around 50 or 100. They would be perfect for hedging or creating small woodland areas."
"We want to help not-for-profit organisations and worthy causes add a little bit of green to their lives. Requests from commercial bodies will not be considered.
"This is a great opportunity for communities all over Somerset to be presented with some free trees so we hope as many people as possible submit requests."
To nominate a cause, applicants must write to Andrew Pitman at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre giving details of their project and why it is deserving of the saplings.
By entering the giveaway, the winner or winners have agreed to take part in publicity.
Requests for the saplings should be posted to: Andrew Pitman, Plant Manager, Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre, Monkton Heathfield, TA2 8QN.
The closing date for requests is 5pm on Friday, February 22, 2013.
