In disappointing news for Somerset Library users, campaigners in London who have been fighting to save the closure of 6 libraries in Brent have today lost their high court case, as a judicial review has found in favour of the local authority.

Glastonbury Library - hours to be cut from Monday
This case has been seen as a test case for other campaigners, and Somerset Campaigners are currently awaiting the results of the judicial review into council plans to close libraries across Somerset and Gloucestershire which concluded last week following a three-day hearing at the High Court in Birmingham.
The judge who presided over the court case in Birmingham is reserving his decision following the review for between two weeks and two months, but in the meantime the injunction against the closure of 11 static libraries in Somerset that was granted on 22nd July 2011 will remain in place until the judge hands down his judgment. This means that the plans to close 6 libraries on 1st of October were put on hold until after the results of the review are known (a further 5 libraries are due to close on 1st April 2012).
Meanwhile proposals to cut the opening hours of local libraries including Glastonbury and Street will still go ahead with effect from this coming Monday, 17th October 2011.
From Monday the new opening hours for our local libraries will be:
