Apparently today, the 1st of October, has officially been recorded as the hottest October day since records began over 100 years ago, with temperatures in some places estimated to reach a whopping 90F, and while I'm not sure what temperature we peaked at today in Glastonbury, it certainly was sweltering.

It started off cool enough, but by 11am it was definitely a day to rival a mid-summer one, and with the the dreary and wet weather we had over what should have been our best months, people in town were unsurprisingly making the most of this late season sun.

By mid-afternoon the town was packed, and it seems that the sun had certainly brought people out.  Any pubs and cafes with outside seating were doing a roaring trade, as many made the most of this autumnal surprise.  Everyone seemed to be embracing the opportunity to embrace the southern-European style cafe culture and so the likes of The Rifleman's, The Crown, the Blue Note, The King William and The King Arthur all seemed to be very busy.  Everyone looked happy; chatty and smiling, many commenting on the weather.

Buskers were out in force, and two young lads wigging out in Magdalene Street were attracting plenty of interest from people who were dancing and clapping along, while ice creams and lollies were being devoured like they were going out of fashion; indeed the weather certainly seemed to be bringing out the best in people.

Looking across to the Tor there seemed to be plenty ascending and descending throughout the day, while every bench in the center of town was occupied by people in t-shirts and shorts lapping up the rays.  In the lush open space of The Abbey grounds tens of people were basking in the sun, and in many cases sheltering from the scorching heat under the many trees that offer such protection.  Personally, I was loving it too - glorious sunshine certainly cheers me up.

Make the most of this weather though, because forecasters are now advising that we will probably be returning to our more usual October temperatures by around Tuesday of next week. Pah!
