A level results day will be upon us tomorrow (Thursday 18th August) and students from Strode College and Millfield School are now, like those all around the country, eagerly waiting for (or in some cases dreading) their exam results.

The letters are in the post and tomorrow morning envelopes will be ripped open resulting in tears of either laughter or sadness as students discover if they have worked hard enough to achieve the required grades to guarantee a firm acceptance offer from the University of their choice.
Some will have exceeded their own expectations and may even be able to apply for an adjustment as they look for a better university of course, while others may need to contact their University to see if they will be accepted even without the required grades or find out whether they need to join the 30,000+ other students who will have to go through clearing to find their course at another university. Providing they are flexible and their exam results aren't catastrophic, most will likely find a place somewhere, even if not one of their preferred choices.
Luckily, our local students fare better than most. In 2010 Strode College achieved an average pass rate of 99% for A-levels (exceeding the national average of 97.6%), while 19 students achieved 3 or more Grade As or Grade A*s making it one of the top colleges in England, a status which is attributed to motivated students under the guidance of teaching staff who are committed to excellent teaching and learning. 2010's results were the colleges best ever with 30 of the 39 A level subjects on offer achieving 100% pass rates of which over 50% were grades A or B.
Meanwhile in 2010 Millfield students had a pass rate of 98.2%, again over the national average) with 26 students achieving Grade A or Grade A*s in a total of 36 subjects.
If you are a local A level student reading this, let us know how you got on tomorrow and if you have any photos, we'd love to see them.
