New Year's resolutions in Glastonbury - have you made yours?

I took an assortment of books and other miscellaneous clutter to the Oxfam Shop in Glastonbury a few days ago (in order to make space for all the unwanted Christmas presents and  miscellaneous clutter I've just received in the past few weeks) and noticed a humorous couple of book displays in the window.

The first collection was concerned with health and diet: featuring books on exercise; juicing and diets with various Gillian McKeith and the like, while the other featured books of a sexual nature: the Kama Sutra; the Joy of Sex etc.   The displays were obviously appealing to those who in their New Year's resolution are aiming to get themselves fitter, but of course there is also a link.  Someone told me that you can burn as many calories during sex as you can while running 8 kilometres, but that sounds quite unfeasible to me because I definitely can't run 8 kilometres in a minute!

On my way back from the shop I bumped into an old friend of mine who I'd not seen for about a year who told me that in the past 9 months he has (through a strict diet and exercise regime) lost over 50lbs in weight which equates to something like 23 bags of sugar and as a result he appeared so dramatically different that I barely recognised him (although the big hat he was wearing added to the illusion I suppose).

The next morning my barber told me she'd given up smoking too.  This was not intentionally but as she was ill over Christmas she didn't feel like smoking and now a few days into the New Year she hasn't sparked up again.

So with all these prompts I've decided that maybe I should also aim to get fit.  I've re-joined the gym at St. Dunstan's School (as I'd not been for several years following some unrelated injuries) and went for my first work-out session yesterday evening (Although most of the working out was how to use the equipment), followed by a stint of Pilates which I found a bit uncomfortable although mainly as I was the only man in a room of women, and they'd all done it before too.   Also I'm also not very flexible (and as I said to the instructor I can only make Wednesdays).   I'm aching today but hopefully I'll soon start to feel the benefit!

Has anyone else made any new year's resolutions or have any idea how to make the gym more tolerable…please let me know!
