A SPECTACULAR night of lights and music at Glastonbury Abbey on Friday 9 September looks set to be a great success.

Between 6pm and 10pm, visitors are invited to picnic and stroll around the grounds enjoying a range of music performed by local groups and soloists as night descends over the ruins of one of England's greatest Medieval Abbeys.

This is a rare chance to see the beautiful architecture and scenery lit, and listen to a variety of local musical talent ranging from folk groups to medieval music.  The mood will be set in the historic St. Patrick's Chapel and across the grounds where visitors can witness first-hand the beauty, mystery and drama of the Abbey by night.

Tea, coffee and a selection of food and soft drinks will be available, as well as the Abbey's prize-winning cider.  People are invited to bring along their own picnic and take in the views as the sun sets before the wonderful display of lights.

James Langley, Communications Officer for Glastonbury Abbey, says: 'Last year's Night at the Abbey was a real success and is back again by popular demand. The inspiring interplay of light and shadow on the walls of such a revered and well-loved historic site is not to be missed!  We hope people will join us for this amazing evening.'

I went along to last year's event on 15th September, which took place after the Tour of Britain had completed its stage five in the town earlier that day and it was indeed a fantastic evening with a great atmosphere and a wide variety of music to entertain us.

Tickets for the evening cost £3 for adults, £2 for under-16s. Children under five go free. Tickets are available from Glastonbury Abbey shops and can also be purchased at:www.glastonburyabbeyshop.com
