Strode College this year saw its best A level and vocational course results ever. The A level pass rate was 99.3 per cent. The magic grades of A*, A or B were taken home by 54 per cent of students. Also helping beat the national average was the fact 81 per cent graded C or higher. On A level subjects themselves, 34 of the 40 courses had a 100 per cent pass rate.

The results were issued this morning, and students flocked to Strode Theatre to receive their grades and join in with the college celebrations. There was a record turn-out of students who congregated in the foyer along with college staff and parents. Many were overjoyed as results confirmed places at Universities of their choice, while some were pondering their options after disappointing grades.

Deputy Head of A Level Studies, Stephen Parry said: 'It is an outstanding year for the A Level results - it is in fact the best we've had, and it means that many students will be able to go on to further their eduation at their chosen establishments. We are extremely pleased with the success of the results this year".

Of the 900 students who took their A Levels in over 40 subjects, 62 students achieved A* and 75% achieved target grades or above. 54% students achieved grades A* - B with 81% reaching grades A* - C.

Nick Hill, Laura Parry and Megan Hill were all celebrating their success with top marks in their subjects. Nick managed two A* grades and one A in Maths, Physics and Geology and will be studying Quantity Surveying with a firm based in Warwick. Laura will be attending Warwick University after achieving 3 A* grades in Maths, English and History, while Megan is heading for Cardiff University to study Architecture, having three A* grades and one B.

Laura said: "I am so excited and really relieved – I'm certainly feeling less sick now! I've enjoyed learning at Strode - the staff have been so supportive and they encouraged me to be a confident and independent learner which has really helped me. Laura's dad Alistair said: "We did a little dance when we got Laura's results – I'm so proud. Strode has supported her brilliantly, particularly as she is partially sighted. When we were deciding on a college for Laura, Strode's attitude and facilities were the best by far."

Fiona Smith of Glastonbury gained three A* grades and a grade A.

Not only were A Level results such a triumph, but it was also a top scoring year for First and National Diplomas, with a pass rate of 99% at National Diploma level and 74 triple distinctions, and 97% of students successfully achieving First Diplomas in a range of subjects.

James Staniforth, Principal said: "Congratulations to all our students who have collectively achieved an outstanding set of results that are better than any in the College's history. Regardless of whether a student studies an A level programme or a vocational course they are all able to achieve fantastic results. These students also achieved excellent value added. Overall they confirm Strode College's status as one of the leading colleges in the country."

Congratulations to all those who achieved their grades. For further information about courses and options for further education and training, contact Strode College.
