"Carnival is a year-round event" says John Dando of Glastonbury. "We want to raise the awareness of that and most of all how much fun we have!"

Speaking with John at the Royal Bath and West Show, in Shepton Mallet, yesterday John Told me how he as chair of the Carnival In Somerset Promotion Project (CISPP) he is determined to spread the word about carnival through events like the Bath and West, and work in Schools across the county.
With two stands and eye catching performances on the village green from various Carnival Clubs one can only hope that some young heads were turned. Like many people in our area, I know many people who are in Carnival Clubs and so am very aware of the hard work that goes in to making what is said to be the worlds greatest illuminated carnival.
Often our awareness is heightened in early November and then we forget about it. John's ongoing mission will no doubt result in the recruitment of young blood into Carnival Clubs, which in turn helps make the massively entertaining event happen and raises thousands of pounds for charity, every single year. The need for new recruits was subtly highlighted as a lady helping on the 'Guy Fawkes Carnival' stand discussed the possibility of stewarding this year on a motability scooter.
To find out how you can get involved, take a look at the CISPP website where you can also buy DVD's of the Carnival, which helps to fund the project.
