VW campervan and wellies for farewell to Glastonbury-loving nurse Lorna

A SEA of Wellington boots brought colour to the funeral of music festival-loving nurse Lorna Grant.

Her friends and family donned gumboots of all patterns and colours in tribute to the 39-year-old from Painswick in Gloucestershire.

The touching gesture had been the wish of Lorna, who was a regular at Glastonbury Festival.

To complete the festival theme, her coffin was brought to the service at Cheltenham Crematorium in a classic Volkswagen camper van with a pink flag attached to the rooftop aerial.

There was standing room only as brightly-dressed mourners packed into the crematorium chapel to pay their respects to the “inspirational” nurse.

Lorna’s sister Linsey Filby said she would have been delighted so many people had turned out wearing wellies.

“Lorna was a big fan of Glastonbury,” she said.

“She would go every year and absolutely loved it. She didn’t want her funeral to be a sombre affair.”

Linsey said Lorna had relished her role as a chemotherapy nurse at the Oncology unit at Cheltenham General Hospital, where she worked for 16 years.

Instead of solemn hymns, the congregation sang Why Does it Always Rain on Me by Travis. Then former colleagues at the hospital stepped forward to pay their own tributes.

One said: “Lorna was born with the ability to care for patients. She always gave 100% in every shift.”

People filed out to the strains of Rule the World by Lorna’s beloved TakeThat before dozens of pink balloons were released into the sky.

The former Stroud High School pupil died on October 30 from bladder cancer.

In her final days she made it to a TakeThat concert and took a helicopter ride over Pains-wick.
