I do like Heaphy's for a Sunday morning latte! Even if the tables and chairs are on a slope and you feel like you're about to topple backwards and crash onto the pavement. Almost makes me feel like I'm on holiday (not the fallling over bit, the pavement cafe culture chic, like being in Paris but without sexy French voices everywhere).

ReportYes, Heaphy's is nice, though I'm not always keen on the occasional drunken behaviour from some of the folk that hang out on the market cross, usually on a Saturday afternoon. But it's probably the best place along with the Mocha Berry to sit outside with a coffee. the G&P tried having outside tables but me and my chap sat there once for a drink and thought we were going to get run over by the First buses every 20 minutes when they came up the high street!

Annie's Tea Garden in Godney is delightful. Set in beautiful Somerset countryside, looking out over the River Sheppey and with magnificent views over the Levels it is a very tranquil place to be. Unfortunately it is only open from April to September and on Friday to Sunday but it does serve a jolly nice cream tea and scone, even if the service can be a little slow.
Annie's even appeared in The Independent Newspaper's Top 50 Tea Rooms of the UK List 2009 and in the same year won an award in Taste of the West tea/ cafe category too.
The menu is simple, using local produce, and an ingredient list for each item in the back of the menu is a nice touch so one knows exactly what is in the food. There are even dairy free, wheat free and gluten free options for those with food intolerance (fussy I think it was known as in my day). Naturally as I'm intolerant of most things it is an ideal place for me.

I think I read somewhere that Annie's tea room may be opening a bit earlier this year than normal? I went there quite late last season and had a lovely afternoon tea, with cheese scones but yes Victor, I found the service was painfully slow too, but worth the wait.
What's happening with La Lune cafe? I really liked that place, I think it was probably my favourite as it was so light and airy and I had a lush salmon tagliatelle there once. Liked the art work and chilled vibe too, it was a shame it closed, but I know it's been bought up. Anyone have the latest?

ReportHi CC, I have to say in all honesty that the Galatea is the cafe I would be least likely to go in, but I don't personally have anything terribly detrimental to say about it, my previous experiences have been ok though I found the service a bit slow and the staff a bit rude and aloof (a couple of years ago) - I had a lovely sunday roast there once but I just find it a bit lacking in atmosphere, the menu a bit samey and not particularly welcoming. I like the decor and the displays of local art work, so pro's and con's I guess.

ReportThe new Coffee #1 in Wells High Street has a lovely laid back atmosphere - you can stay for hours and just hang out plus the coffee is excellent. However the best value in Somerset for coffee is The Crown in Wells Market Place where unlimited filter coffee is £1.40, but don't build up your hopes for the cappuchinos as they haven't quite mastered the knack of making them.
galatea has the best home cooked style veggi food in town or anywhere close IMHO and when i was just a visior here i left my jacket there and totally forgeot where i left it, i came back TWO years later and it was there on the hook with everything in my pockets untouched.

That is quite a remarkable tale, Viziondanz. In this day and age that is quite a rarity.
The last time I visited The Galatea there was a young man sitting in their writing or drawing while stripped naked to the waist (his top half was naked before you ask), If I had seen your coat I would maybe have offered it to him to cover himself up; it was quite offputting as I was trying to eat my lunch. It wasn't even a particularly warm day.
He is quite a regular in there I think, and it may be for religious reasons, but I think it may lose them some trade, even in a town like Glastonbury.

ooh that's all helpful info' thank you. Although I don't know whether the fact your coat hadn't been moved was a good or bad thing and I don't think I would be too chuffed to drink coffee next to a half naked customer, I can see how that would be off putting.
What do you think would make an improvement to the towns cafes, what not there that could be?

ReportI did hear on the grapevine that LaLune was going to be a tapas bar - couldn't confirm it to be true though
By CarlaCalamity at 19:52 on 10/02/10
ReportThat would be fab CC, I would love to see a Tapas bar around here, as long as they do lots of good veggie tapas too (not for me, for my chap) - it's juts what the area could do with, I was only discussing with a friend today how Glastonbury could do with a good evening venue for nice food, there's so little in town apart from the Italian and Indian, and the pubs I guess. Fingers crossed for a new venture!

Following a successful trial, Blue Cedar are pleased to announce that they are to open in the evenings as a BYO (Bring your own) restaurant, so patrons can enjoy a glass of wine with their meal. Being only a few doors up from "the co-op" (which is also open in the evenings) makes the whole process very straightforward. Booking advisable. 01458 832292

No. LOL.. Actualy our food is rather good, even if I say so myself. Most of it is organic, but not over-priced.

Around Samhain time, Izzy and myself went up the Tor and came down hungry.
We discovered Blue Cedar and had the most excellent meal of soup, jacket-potato and a magnificent piece of chocolate cake..all to be followed by viewing an excellent art exhibition.
Definitely recommended
