Ey oop, lads, there must be some sort of election in the offing !
The craven cowards hiding on this forum behind the idiotic sig. 'Mendip Matters' (and the official Conservative party logo), are obviously feeling the hurt, rejection, and downright ANGER towards them caused by the reaction to toxic tory policies locally.
And as for corrupt representatives: correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Mendip the area where SIX tory Councillors were arrested within the space of eight days recently ? For suspected fraud ?
What are they doing ? Trying for a place in The Guinness Book of Records ?

Too little, too late Mendip me old cobber. Your feeble attempt at smearing our MP is wasted. She is worth a thousand compared to Heathcote (manure) Avery. I hope he is putting some of it around his Roses now he has retired.

Mmm. I suspect no male politician would ever have worded any personal attack on a woman in that way. Could it be that we have here one seriously upset Tory FEMALE, trying to work up a very public *****-slapping contest ?
Handbags at dawn, eh ?
Who could it be, I wonder ?

Why do the local Tory's insist on being nasty and mounting personal attacks ,
its not on , we have local elections and i hope they will play fair and not fall back
on slurs and negative campaigning ,that would be so bad , and only serve to turn even more people off of politics.
Why can they not stop being mean spirited and start working for the community , god knows that's what they are supposed to be doing ,
not taking political pot shots and trying to score imagined political brownie points .

Report"Why do the local Tory's insist on being nasty and mounting personal attacks" -- it's a fundamental part of their very mindset, I'm afraid, Nick. Like being unable to sign anything on a public forum with their real name -- skulking cowards that they are, not a single one of them has the guts to support their beliefs by announcing their real identity in public with pride. No : they have to hide in the shadows and **** off others from there.

Hi martin , i believe that it is only a very small minority of Tories who indulge in these tactics ,i have many conservative friends who are as annoyed by this sort of action as i am , and it is very odd that these unfounded attacks start
just before the town and district elections , i hope to stand as a Lib Dem candidate in the St Edmund's ward of Glastonbury ,and i certainly would not indulge in these sort of tactics.
I for one ,am honest when i say that i believe the Tory leadership at both Mendip and County councils are not in touch with the people , and they are
in danger of causing far more hardship in both Mendip and the County than
is necessary in order to balance the books

Talking about political attacks, have you seen the StandUp4Shepton and Streetzuup sites - now they are really nasty.
Any chance of Nick and Martin telling us what they think of those sites?
It is odd how the two share content and show similar political favouritism - perhaps the same people are behind these dreadful sites.
The former has been criticised in the Shepton Journal and the latter features a really nasty attack on the man who has worked so hard to save Wearyall's holy thorn tree (some might say he really worked a some magic on it now that the damaged tree has sprouted new shoots).
If it's nasty you want - and I mean *really* nasty - then look no further than the MendipMatters postings. Particularly their arch-beeitchiness about other women. Woo! Real cat-fight stuff there. (No political criticism though - it's all personal attack from that quarter.) As for StandUp4Shepton and Streetzuup, I find them hysterically funny (and pretty spot on in their social analysis, as well); and a breath of fresh air from the anodyne stuff that *you* would obviously prefer to have imposed on everyone. But then, I'm the sort of person who just *loved* the Spitting Image portrayal of Margaret Thatcher - brilliant ! I should point out that I'm also the sort of person who doesn't feel the need to hide behind a prophylactic identity to express my opinions, as you do. (Nick likewise.) You don't write poison-pen letters for your local community, by any chance, do you ?

ReportWhy ? We've just got to the point where we're enjoying it ! [Goddam hippies - trying to spread love and peace everywhere. Don't you know there's an election on ? This is when intelligent, mild-mannered people take to the streets, and GO APE at each other. Really. I mean, I know it's Glastonbury and all, where "my vote is not to vote", but this is the only time you can go out and suhlag off everyone in sight with impunity. (Look at the way posh-boy Dave is telling the most *outrageous* lies about AV and its proponents, and being allowed to get away with it.) Hey,look - some of us actually *like* going out and hitting our political opponents over the head with clubs - you know ? Peace and Love just don't go with politics. And it's certainly nothing any Tory would understand.]

You can find politicians who have had priviledged backgrounds or who have had to make their successes from hard work and nothing else in every party. Clegg's schooling is not too different from Cameron and he even married the daughter of one of General Franco's politicos, one might wonder how Milliband as the son of a lecturer got into Oxford given his poor grades, etc. The truth is that most people do not like "nasty" politics as you clearly do; I for one find it a real turn-off and am happy to point the finger when I find unnecessarily distasteful sites such as SU4S and Streetzuup. It is not just the people who post there who should be judged on their mean streaks but those who are involved in putting those sites together, such as the web designer as they are complicit in creating the nasty sites.
