Not quite what the title suggests but I was seriously annoyed last week when the refuse collectors neglected to empty my wheelie bin, especially when I had put it out in plenty of time, and with this old war wound it is a damn struggle I'll have you know.
I peeked in a few other bins in the vicinity and lo and behold they had all been emptied, so I don't know why mine was neglected.
So in a fit of rage I dragged mine back into the garden nearly putting my back out in the process, grabbed my old quill and ink and wrote a disgruntled letter to Mendip as follows:
Dear Sir/Madam
Subject: Rubbish Collection
Although the subject may actually describe the service I am receiving, I am in fact enquiring why the refuse collectors didn’t empty my green bin yesterday morning when they emptied every other one in the near vicinity. I could make a joke here about them being called refuse collectors because they refuse to collect the waste, but you’ve probably heard it already.
There were two black bin liners within, both tied and neither contained bottles, cans or other recyclable materials, which were in our black recycling box which was in fact collected. Would it be possible to find out why this happened as I now have no storage for waste for the next 2 weeks.
Would it also be possible to request a new food bin at this time too as last time we left it out all day someone smashed it to bits?
Thanks in advance,
Victor Mildew.

I was pleased to receive a remarkably quick response from a nice young lady called Jenna as follows:
Dear Mr Mildew,
I have ordered you a new food waste bin that will be delivered in the next 10 working days. I have also put through a missed collection report for your refuse bin that was not collected yesterday. The bin will be collected in the next two working days, they do not work over the weekend so it will be collected on Mon, Tues next week so if you could put the bin out on Sunday evening ready for them to collect it would be appreciated.
I have also passed your email onto Somerset Waste Partnership so one of their officers will be contacting you to explain the various problems you have been dealing with, in connection with the refuse service.
I hope this covers everything for you, if you have any other queries please do not hesitate to contact customer services on the number below.
Regards,
Jenna

I am pleased to report that my rubbish was collected as advised and although the food waste container issue has yet to be resolved, we are still well within the 10 day period. The phone call from SWP is also not yet forthcoming so watch this space.

ReportI realise no-one will be interested but my food bin was delivered today - not quite to the correct address but near enough, so credit where it is due.
