I saw on the BBC Somerset website today http://tinyurl.com/32lqysh that brown road signs are due to be replaced in order to support tourism in the county. Interestingly however, no mention was made as to what they were going to be replaced with. Has the county invested in some of Derek Cozen’s useless electronic flashing traffic lights that featured on last week’s Dragon’s Den, or are we going to see bumpkins standing on the side of the road pointing in the vague direction of a landmark as part of David Cameron’s big society plan. Perhaps they will follow the National Trust lead and paint them fluorescent orange (as mentioned elsewhere this evening) or maybe it will it be something else altogether?

What do you think these signs should be replaced with if anything? Should they be left alone, or are too many signs already a distraction to drivers? And if there is a possibly expensive solution who do you think should pay for it. Discuss it here.

There are far too many signs already of all sorts .For instance a red and white sign about 3foot by 1 foot up a lamp post about about 50 yards from the not so new pedestrian controlled crossing near tin bridge round about , telling you thet there is a new crossing ahead.- a crossing that I have never seen anyone use- and I live right near it. And it is a crossing that can be seen as soon as you come round the bend by Avalon Motors it hardly needs a piddling little sign half way up a lamp post to tell you it's there.
One of the best signs I have seen is on the Dorchester By pass it says 'This sign not in use'
Still it is only our money they are wasting!
