Sponsorship and Support Needed for Scrapstore
By Scrapstore | Friday, December 03, 2010, 13:04
This is an appeal to any generous individuals or business people who may be in a position to help. As a registered charity, we are currently finding it increasingly difficult to secure any funding, both locally and nationally.
I am looking for sponsorship for the Scrapstore, or financial support to see us through these difficult times. We are serving many of our local schools, children's services and community groups, diverting waste from landfill and delivering many community based projects. In turn, we are going to become increasingly vital to help support countless groups who are also facing spending cuts and turn to us to make their money stretch further. It is also very likely that we will have some or all of our Voluntary Sector Funding pulled in April by MDC which pays towards core costs.
If you think you could help or can suggest someone who may be willing to support us, please let me know by emailing laura@gemsscrapstore.org.uk or by phoning 01749 938112.
Thank you.

Thanks Ed, and yes I do need your help / meddling! You are spot on though, and it's so lovely to know that somene completely 'gets' what the Scrapstore does for our community. It is such a simple, logical yet vital operation, diverting waste from being buried in the ground and made useable by children, famiies, schools, community groups for creative, playful and educational projects. It is cheap, wonderful and ethical, and we are becoming more and more popular every day with groups who are having their own funding cut and need to make their money stretch further. Unfortunately, unless we can get some more financial support for core expenditure, particularly if MDC pull our funding, we could lose the best resource base Mendip and the surrounding areas have. THEN what will happen, is people will lament this, and even in the future think 'We could really do with a local Scrapstore......'.
Please support us, talk to generous friends and business people, or even just tell people about us and get them to come and join up as members and buy some scrap. It's got to be worth every single penny, and if you want to come and see us to learn exactly what we do, you are always more than welcome to. http://tinyurl.com/36aqfv7

ReportI am sure Laura doesn't need my help/meddling really, but I want to add just how good the Scrapstore is as an idea. This is how I see it:
As times get tougher we are in danger of allowing a massive irony to happen if we accept that money is just too tight to support a charity like this; The Scrapstore wrings every last use out of the materials that finds it way into their hands and makes them available at very reasonable prices to those who need them, as well as supporting/providing entertainment for children in our area, free of charge. The relatively small amount of funding and support needed for this charity provides quality payback to children and families who are likely to be feeling poorer over the coming months and possibly years. Do not make the mistake that this is just a Glastonbury thing either. The work of the GEMS Scrapstore directly adds value to the community in the whole of the Mendip area, and with a very high yield. I would describe this as a 'Wombling-ly good' cause and urge anyone who might be able to help in whatever way they can. [soap box packed away now]
