Valentine’s Day. Funny old occasion

I think,  for the simple reason that you

don’t really need one poxy day in the

year to show someone you care, for every day is a day to celebrate your love.

Am I right?

Of course I am. But if my partner

doesn’t remember to provide me with some such cliché as a bunch of flowers on

the 14th Feb, I will genuinely throw a full-on tantrum.

I think it’s safe to say

that generally it’s us women that appreciate the romantic gestures that V Day

promises, so, gentlemen, take heed. Denying your lady a token gesture could be

an unwise move if you want harmony and peace for the following week….

In Glastonbury, we have two florists. Enchanted Florals in the Gauntlet

and Glastonbury Flower Shop further up the High Street can help you with a

romantic display of lovely blooms. Mundys in Street are also able to create

lovely bouquets and are Interflora agents. They also do a lovely range of

plants.

Glastonbury is a great place for buying the unusual, and you

could put a bit of thoughtful romance into your shopping for your other half.

Starchild do a range of sensuous massage oils, the one called Love Potion

should get you in the mood as will the flickering of candle

light from some of their hand-dipped candles. If you fancy a bit of

hand-dipping of your own, then make sure you remember some fragranced bath oil to stimulate

the senses and tickle your fancy.

Food. I would suggest trying

to recreate the food scene from 91/2 Weeks, but let’s face it, if you’ve got

small kids, pets and piles of ironing everywhere, blindfolding your partner and

dangling bits of pasta and raspberry jelly into their mouths may not be

condusive to the kind of you-know-what that Kim Bassinger and Mickey Rooney got

up to. No. What you need instead are some lovely treats from the Artisan

deli counter which you can nibble on while relaxing together. Olives, cheeses,

hummous, stuffed peppers, taramasalata, stuffed vine leaves, pates and other

such delicacies are on offer as well as a range of local wines and aperitifs to

whet your whistle. Failing that, why not have a take-away? Oriental Chef and

Elaichi Tandoori are good options. If you fancy a sit-down meal, have a look at

our V Day Dining Guide here.

You may well be the ultimate

Romantic and be planning to pop the big question this Valentine’s Day? For

rings and other bling head for Price’s jewellers in the High Street, Elements

of Desire at the front of the Gauntlet and Jons in the Market Place. Stoneage, tucked away to the rear of the Glastonbury Experience also do a range of unusual gems and jewellery.

For real hearts and flowers

stuff then why not seek out a book of beautiful poetry for your lover? There are

many places to search, including the Speaking Tree, Courtyard Books, Labyrinth

Books and Dicketts. Dicketts also do a great range of funny and romantic cards.

And if you are looking for love this Valentine's Day, maybe head to one of the Wicca and Magik shops in town for some advice about brewing your own Love potion.....

Whatever it means for you

anyway, have a very loving 14th February!

Brilliant article! Sums up my experiences of fickle fillies entirely though. They do like shiny things and flowers, bless their pretty heads. [irony alert]
