American R&B singer Beyonce Knowles has now been mooted to be the third Pyramid headline act at this year's Glastonbury Festival, after a statement was posted on Universal, her record company’s website earlier today,  and will close the Festival on the Sunday evening (26th June)..

Although Festival organisers have not as yet confirmed the headliners, it would appear that U2 will headline Saturday (after being forced to cancel last year due to Bono's back injury), Coldplay will perform on Saturday (their first performance since 2005) and Beyonce on Sunday.

Beyonce was last at the Festival in 2008 when her husband Jay-Z headlined, although as a spectator rather than her performer.  His appearance was filled by scepticism by many who thought he was an inappropriate choice, and poor ticket sales (the festival only sold out a few days before it was due to start) were blamed by many on his appearance.  Nevertheless his powerful performance won over many disbelievers and silenced many critics.

Regarding the announcement Beyonce said: "This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend.

"I'm pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy."

Meanwhile, according to The Sun today, The Libertines are also reported to be playing on the Other Stage at this year’s Festival, although this has yet to be confirmed by either the Organisers or Pete Doherty and his band members.
