Rock star spotted in Glastonbury town centre today

I've just been to the first Glastonbury Community Conference at the Assembly Rooms and while I was there I bumped into (and later accosted outside) a "rock star" if that is how you can term him: Monty Oxymoron, keyboard player of punk rock legends The Damned.

The Damned was my favourite band for years as a young 'un, and was the first "big" band I ever saw (at the Colston Hall in Bristol supported by the Anti-Nowhere League - I won’t let on how long ago that was), and from then on I've probably seen them a zillion times in various incarnations.   Monty didn't join until much later (1996 I believe) but is now an integral (and eccentric) part of the band, who did actually headline the Avalon stage at the Glastonbury Festival in 2003.

Monty told me that he is in Glastonbury for a few days getting away from the noise and the chaos, and taking some time out to relax having been on tour throughout the summer (that finished just over a week ago) as well as recently released his new 11 song solo album entitled "Visions of the Ecstasy Aunt".  I gave him the heads up about Glastonbury’s most exciting entertainment this evening (The Moody Blues number one tribute act Blue Onyx, but from his dismissive response I think he thought they were Number 2). He then proceeded to joke about how their song Smash It Up references Glastonbury hippies, and as you can see from the photo he blends in perfectly.

A good friend of mine once told me to always have a camera (and even more importantly a camera battery) to hand at all times. You never know when a photo opportunity may arise!

I love the damned but I dont think I would have recognized him. I always had a bit of a fixation with Captain Sensible, and even forgave him for 'Happy Talk' (a song I like from a musical I loath). Did you know 'Sensible' was in a covers band called 'Oasis'? Ive been on a fact hunt!
