The summer may be drawing to a close but there is still plenty going on in the area this weekend, and it looks like the weather will be holding out for us too.

West Mendip Hospital has a Grand fete on Saturday afternoon that is being opened by Michael Eavis.  It has been organised by the League of Friends and takes place in the hospital grounds from 2pm until 4.30pm.  The attractions include a classic motorcycle display, music from the Grey Dogs jazz band, children's bouncy castle and roundabout, stalls and a raffle.

Mr. Eavis is also holding his Pilton Party tonight headlined by Paulo Nutini, although if you don’t have a ticket there is no point showing up as you won’t get in.  Festivities continue in Pilton tomorrow and Sunday with the Traditional Pilton Show which incorporates the 102nd Flower Show and the 127th Sports Fair and which has all manner of events including on Saturday a performance by Shepton’s gymnasts; children’s sports; a bouncy castle; a presentation from Street Juggling shop Lovely Jugglies; stalls selling produce, plants, jumble, books and bric-a-brac; and a raffle.

On Sunday there's a five-a-side Football tournament for Under 12s on the field from 2pm plus a Tug o' War.  At 2pm there’s a village treasure hunt, starting at 2pm, followed by cream teas and the bar auction at 4.30pm. The weekend's activities conclude with a service of thanksgiving, with speakers and in the village church at 6.30pm.

The Library of Avalon, in conjunction with the Assembly Rooms is holding the first Glastonbury Community Conference, in celebration of all things Glastonbury at the Assembly Rooms between 12 noon and 6pm, with entertainment, stalls, a variety of speakers including: Councillor John Brunsdon, Reverend Evelyn Ridout, Witchcraft Ltd’s Trevor Jones and Barry Taylor who helped set up the Glastonbury Trust.  Proceeds from the event will go towards the Library of Avalon and the Assembly Rooms.

At the Town Hall tomorrow night Blue Onyx, the UK’s only Moody Blues Tribute band, will be performing.  The show starts at 8pm and tickets are still available at the Beckets Inn for a tenner.

Rock Against the Machine, a Devon based singer/guitarist covers artist is appearing at the King William from 8pm on Saturday 4th, and will doubtless be playing a Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Nirvana and Led Zep cover or two.

As mentioned elsewhere there is a pick your own weekend at West Bradley Orchards between 10am to 5pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

If you know of anything else I’ve missed that deserves a mention, let us know below.
