Earthfare Wholefood Store in Glastonbury has moved

As we mentioned previously, the anticipated move has taken place (and untypically for Glastonbury, a day ahead of schedule) and Earthfare is now located in the old Woolworth’s store at 45 High Street.

In these uncertain and often bleak economic times it is good to see a small, family owned local store take the plunge and move into much larger premises, and it is delightful to see the unsightly, empty building at the top of the High Street now converted into a colourful, fresh looking and hopefully thriving business.
Certainly it seemed busy today, and when I popped in this afternoon there were plenty of people making use of their new store and feedback seems good.
Inside, there’s still a whiff of paint and the interior decor isn’t yet finished; indeed the proposed cafe at the rear of the store seems quite some way from completion, while several of the shelves are still bare, with pricing of some products still needing to be finished.
Nevertheless, the shop appears a lot airier and easier to navigate around than the old one, and it helps to browse without bumping into people, but while it doesn’t quite maintain the charm of the old building it certainly adds a fresh, more modern look to the top part of the Glastonbury High Street that could probably use more footfall.
The Central Somerset Gazette reported on the anticipated move back in September, and that article can be read here.
The move however now leaves another shop empty in what was Earthfare’s old home of 29 High Street in the architecturally beautiful and listed Georges Hall. What would you like to see there, or do you know what will be moving in?
Let us know, we’d love to hear.

Lets hope they have every success here and it provides a much needed facelift, and financial boost, to the top end of the high street. :-)
