Glastonbury's Abbey Moor Stadium loses late-night licence

Mendip District Council has revoked the late night licence at Glastonbury Abbey Moor Stadium on the Godney Road, apparently following complaints about noise and anti-social behaviour.
Yet it appears that the venue wasn't even given the chance to address any issues and the licence was removed just like that so that all music events must now have an 11pm curfew.
Now I am rightly renowned for being a grumpy old so-and-so, and I've not even attended any Abbey Moor events to comment. I'm far too old for all that banging and blowing that the whippersnappers seem to enjoy these days, but it does strike me as a little overzealous by the council. The Stadium is after all in one of the least populated parts of town.
I remember not so long ago that Heroes Nightclub in Silver Street was allowed to carry on causing a nuisance for years, with antisocial behaviour regularly spilling into the nearby streets, with fighting and drunkenness causing much consternation to the neighbours, yet nothing ever seemed to be done about that.
Last Thursday (28th January) I was actually in Glastonbury High Street taking the old mutt for a walk and at 11.45pm the window rattling cacophony emanating from the Backpackers pub as we passed must have been most annoying for the local residents, but that seems to be perfectly fine too. That venue doesn't even have adequate secondary glazing.
Councillor Tom Billing will be raising the Abbey Moor issue at the next Glastonbury Town Council Meeting on February 9th and asking for support, while the club will be appealing the new conditions so it will be interesting what the outcome will be.
