A new Prime Minister and Coalition Government for Britain.

Following a heartfelt and emotional speech outside Number 10 Downing Street this evening, Gordon Brown has tendered his resignation as Prime Minister at Buckingham Palace, and David Cameron has shortly afterwards accepted the Queen’s invitation to become his replacement after negotiations between the Liberal Democrats and the Labour Party could not forge a deal that would keep the Labour Party in power.

After 13 years of Labour power we are back with a Conservative leader (and the 14th Prime Minister the Queen has dealt with), while Harriet Harman is acting Party Leader for the Labour Party following Brown’s resignation as Labour Party leader.

Mr Cameron will now face the daunting task of forming the new cabinet and getting on with running a new government.

What forms the deal between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, and who will be in the cabinet remains to be seen, but Cameron states that “he is aiming to form a proper and full coalition with the Liberal Democrats to form a stable and strong Government which will work together for the common interest, and to rebuild trust in the political system”.  He admits that he faces difficult times, and the political system needs reform.

What will this all mean for Glastonbury people?  Do you feel that Cameron will make a good leader?  Will this Government last, and will the fellow old Etonians Cameron and Clegg be able to form a lasting relationship.  Let us know your views here.

Paul O'Grady is a funny guy - no politician, but most politicians are no politicians worth having.

I did a show with Paul O grady once, does that count? He also got CROSS when he lost his white wig 5 minutes before the show went up. Guess where it was? On his dressing room table where it was meant to be!!!! Urgh actors Apart from that he took me and the rest of the crew and his wife for party in east end and me mates asked me to ask him to stop cracking jokes. I wont tell you what he said cos i might get banned but he did laff and gave me big hug.

This has nothing to do with politics but I can see Camerooooooon becoming a comedian now and I hope they have a straight jacket reserved for him . On second thoughts, how about straight jackets for those who voted him in ? LOL

I don't think I'd bet too much against that James - once the honeymoon is over and they are squabbling like a jaded married couple who can't stand the sight of each other it could be quite likely.

Then when it happens we'll have a Conservative government with very few Liberal MPs left in Parliament.
