The Library of Avalon is to my knowledge the only publicly accessible esoteric library in the whole of the UK.
Situated right at the back of the Courtyard, the Library is housed in an ancient Grade II listed building, known until recently as the Bridget Chapel and part of it is formed by the Great North Wall of the Abbey, and due to it's location many visitors to Glastonbury probably don't even know it is there. Indeed I'd lived in Glastonbury for several years before I ventured in.
Manned by volunteers, the Library itself is both a member's library as well as a public reading room, and many an hour can be spent reading in the calm environment surrounded by thousands of books (mainly donations) that aren't readily available in Glastonbury's main library, and for those with a love of books it is a must see place on a visit to the town.
