The Sheppey is now fully re-furbed and beautiful to boot, with restyled bar area leading onto the decking outside which overlooks the levels - a glass 'wall' now opens to create an open plan inside / outside area which in the warm weather is heavenly. But the pub is fast becoming renowned for being a fab place to dine, with a new and extensive menu, reasonably priced but of exceelent quality. In fact, everyone I know who has eaten there recently is raving about the food. It's closed on Mondays but worth a visit to sample the menu.

ReportWe spent the night at the Sheppey yesterday, and it was a fun and friendly experience with a band called the Red Hillbillies playing in the bar.
Although the kitchen is currently closed for refurbishment, there was still a great selection of local ciders including Hecks and Wilkins, ales including Potholer and Blindman's Golden Spring and I sampled a couple of different brews not often seen on draft around these parts (Kozel lager and Erdinger Wheat beer). The chilli vodka on offer had to be samples of course, and wow -that had a kick like a mule and warmed me up before stepping out into the well below freezing Saturday night air.

ReportI found myself in the Sheppey on New Year's Eve and must say it was a great place to see in the New Year (even though alas I am too old to stay up until midnight. With a roaring wood burner and friendly staff and atmosphere this is a charming traditional pub with a multitude of ciders on tap, as well as an awesome selection of Belgian beers and spirits. One of the best country locals around!

ReportThank God someone saw sense to buy this place earlier this year and get it back in business. The Sheppey was bought after a year of closure, by the bloke that originally transformed the Wookey Hole Inn. At the moment it is only open on selected evenings and afternoons, mainly over the weekends. But it's worth a visit as this is one of te most scenic, tranquil places to sit with a cold drink on a summer's day (on the decking by the rver, overlooking fields) or curling up next to an oen fire in the flagstoned bar, during the winter. Looking forward to seeing what their menu brings.
