Primary school-aged children from as far afield as Ashcott, Walton, Meare, Butleigh and Baltonsborough as well as Glastonbury and Street have been enjoying a range of activities at Street Children’s Centre through the summer holidays.
The sessions have a different theme each week, including Forest School, Street on Sea, Animal Adventures and Mini Beasts.
“We are running sessions from 9am to 3pm every weekday throughout the holidays and have been seeing as many as 34 children attending some days,” said Viv Drake, a spokeswoman for the centre.
“This is a phenomenal increase from our early days when we had 10 to 12 children most days.
“We have been really pleased to see an increase in the number of children who have additional needs coming along, and we have been able to ensure that we have appropriate staffing and resources available thanks to some funding from the Aiming High project.”
