Getting Fit in Glastonbury and Street

In June this year, I was sat enjoying some music with friends outside in the sunshine at the Glastonbury’s pub, the Rifleman’s. I had been intending to join a gym, lose weight and generally get healthier - partly due to an obvious need (I am carrying what James Corden calls ‘timber’) and partly due to the then impending ‘significant birthday’, about which I will talk no further. It was here, completely by chance, that I met personal trainer Lucy Rutherford, who had been training one of my friends (and still is).

Getting fit in Glastonbury is great...but I wont lie to you, this isn't me.
I had preconceptions, I admit, about personal trainers. The moment I found out her occupation I tried to align my mental image of a shouty, aggressive personal trainer that had been drawn by some pretty awful reality TV, with the personable and pragmatic lady who sat in front of me.
Lucy, I discovered, takes a client centered approach. At that time, I had a bit of a fear or loathing (I am not sure which) of gyms, but fortunately, Lucy was as happy to work with me outside, at home, at the pool or wherever. As it is, I decided that for the long term good, it would be useful for me to overcome my ‘issue’ with gyms, and so we set up a meeting at The Train Station. Arranging to meet with Lucy meant I had to go, first and foremost, but in effect it meant I had someone to metaphorically hold my hand.
Fully qualified in a wide range of subject areas, Lucy has years of experience which is reflected in her approach. For me, having gained a foot problem on holiday, Lucy’s flexible approach to helping people achieve their goals is what not only makes her worthy of recommendation, but has been essential to my continued work towards my longer term goals.
Lucy isn’t the stereotype ‘shouty’ personal trainer, but is amply capable of motivating you, and as she told me, “I am passionate about my work and helping clients achieve their goals, be it health and fitness or training for marathons”. While I am a bit of a lump looking to lose some weight and not die in the process, she can clearly deliver the goods regardless of how serious you wish to take things. Lucy works independently, so the best way to contact her is on her mobile 07775 254637 or by email lucyalicerutherford@hotmail.co.uk
There are many ways of getting fit or remaining active in the Glastonbury area. Aside from a walk up the Tor (which has to be one of the very best things to do in all of Somerset), there is Strode Swimming Pool and Gym in Street, as well as the seasonal Greenbank outdoor pool. If you were built for dancing, then you might even want to try your hand (or hips?) at Salsa, which you can do at La Terre every Tuesday night at 7.30pm!
Do you have any great suggestions for fun or accessible ways of getting and staying healthy in the Glastonbury? The less conventional the better! Tell us all.

Ive met Lucy and she is lovely. She trains my Sister. Like you say not shouty like you see on telly (punchable is a word I would use to describe the 'Biggest Loser' trainers).
