Bus Cuts affecting Glastonbury

I will try to be with you tonight, but here are two things to share....

1.  If you think this year's cuts are bad, then be aware that over the next two years Somerset intend to make cuts of similar financial magnitude each year.  So this will affect daytime services as well.  At the recent Somerset Public Transport Forum meeting, it was agreed that there will be an extra Somerset Public Transport Forum meeting on 23 June - at this meeting there will be discussion of any ideas that you have as to how to preserve and improve public transport in the area without any funding!  It may sound ridiculous, but if you want public transport, then we may have to find other ways of funding and other ways of providing it.  Last week the Government announced that Somerset will be given over £300,000 this year for Community Bus Partnerships.   See http://www.foybus.btck.co.uk/news

2.  The Government's Transport Select Committee wants to hear from all people in Somerset affected by the cuts - by Easter.  So look at

If you can print copies of this leaflet for tonight's meeting that would be good

Hi, for detailed information about how the Council Cuts will affect First bus services in the area see the press release on First's website (http://tinyurl.com/4mb8a6v): http://tinyurl.com/4jpc6py

It is worth noting however that there have been three amends to this press release affecting Services 54, 376, 173. The changes to Services 376 and 173 have been made following input by North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset Councils - who wish to retain evening and weekend journeys that were previously supported by Somerset Council. The ommission regarding Service 54 was an oversight in the original press release.

    These amends are detailed below:

On Service 54 in addition to the Monday to Saturday evening service, the Sunday and Public Holiday service is also being withdrawn, while the 0905 Monday to Friday journey between Ilchester to Yeovil is also withdrawn. The latter is a commercial decision and is not part of the Somerset Council cutbacks.

On Service 376. Bath and North Somerset Council has put out a tender for a reduced evening frequency between Bristol and Wells which will be operated by First (Wells to Street is lost as a result of the Somerset Council Cuts). The entire Public Holiday service was withdrawn but again Bath and North East Somerset Council have put a tender for a Bristol to Wells service which we First will operate.

Service 173: Bath and North East Somerset has awarded First a contract to operate a Public Holiday service which replicates what First will be operating on Sundays from Mid April on a commercial basis. In addition First has been awarded a contract to operate two additional Service 178 journeys in each direction between Bath and Midsomer Norton to replace the withdrawn Service 173 journeys over that section on Sundays and Public Holidays.
